US Strikes on Iran Continue; Trump Warns Attacks Not Over
The United States military confirmed early Wednesday that it had completed the 11th consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran, as hostilities in West Asia intensify. The strikes, which targeted aircraft hangars and drone storage sites, come amid the collapse of an interim ceasefire deal that had been brokered through diplomatic efforts in Pakistan.
US Central Command stated that the operations focused on degrading Iranian military infrastructure. The Pentagon has not disclosed casualty figures or provided a timeline for ending the campaign.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth testified before Congress on Tuesday that the war in Iran has cost the United States $37.5 billion so far, a significant increase from the previous estimate of nearly $29 billion in mid-May. “The estimate we have as of today is $37.5 billion,” Mr. Hegseth said, without providing a breakdown of expenditures.
President Donald Trump warned that the United States was “not finished” attacking Iran, as strikes continued into Tuesday. Meanwhile, Iran has broadened its offensive against Gulf states, following its Houthi allies’ threats to blockade Saudi ports. The escalation raises concerns about broader regional instability and the security of vital shipping lanes.
Diplomatic efforts by Pakistani mediators to salvage a ceasefire have so far failed, with both sides accusing each other of violating earlier agreements. The United Nations has called for an immediate de-escalation, but no formal talks are scheduled.
