Ukrainian Woman Held in Bihar for Overstaying Visa, Attempting Illegal Nepal Border Crossing
A Ukrainian woman was arrested jointly by personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Bihar Police in East Champaran district on charges of overstaying her visa and attempting to cross into Nepal illegally, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Oksana Shevtsova, was apprehended near Sainik Road close to the Indo-Nepal border during a routine patrol on Monday evening. The SSB sub-inspector reported that she was intercepted around 6:30 p.m. while allegedly trying to cross into Nepal through Harpur.
During questioning, Shevtsova failed to produce valid travel documents. She later showed electronic copies of her passport and visa on her mobile phone, which upon examination were found to have expired in 2022. A written complaint was lodged at the Harpur police station against her.
Officials recovered a mobile phone, an earbud, and Indian currency worth ₹7,330 from her possession. Authorities have launched a further investigation into the matter.
No additional details about the woman's background or her stay in India have been disclosed at this time. The case highlights ongoing border security measures along the porous Indo-Nepal frontier.
