Uber India enhances safety with video recording, ambulance link, and seatbelt alerts

Uber India has announced an expansion of its safety toolkit, introducing features such as encrypted video recording, ambulance assistance, and seatbelt reminders for both passengers and drivers.

The updated 'Record My Ride' feature now includes opt-in video recording that activates automatically on all trips once enabled. Recordings are encrypted on the device and can only be decrypted by Uber when a safety report is filed. Previously, the feature only offered audio recording.

The company's 24×7 safety line now includes ambulance assistance, which riders can request when medical attention is needed. According to Uber, the average dispatch time for an ambulance is expected to be less than 15 minutes. Riders can also set and change their own verification pins as needed.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari was the chief guest at the event where the features were announced.
