Two Tamil Nadu fishing boats detained in Andhra waters near Nellore

Two fishing boats from Tamil Nadu have been seized for allegedly operating in Andhra Pradesh's territorial waters near Nellore district. The action was taken during a joint patrol conducted by officials from the Marine Police, Fisheries, and Forest Departments.

According to a statement from the District Fisheries Joint Director, Chand Basha, the boats were detected approximately 15 km off the coast of Indukurupeta mandal. The joint team immediately detained the vessels and moved them to Juvvaladinne Harbour, where they were handed over to Marine Police for further legal proceedings.

The operation was part of ongoing sea patrolling efforts ordered by District Collector Himanshu Shukla. Two mechanised boats have been deployed to curb illegal fishing activities in Andhra Pradesh's maritime zone.

Officials stated that strict action would continue against those engaged in unauthorised fishing in state waters. They affirmed the government's commitment to protecting fishery resources and the rights of local fishermen.

This incident highlights the ongoing jurisdictional tensions between neighbouring states over fishing rights in coastal waters. Such disputes often arise due to overlapping claims and lack of clear demarcation at sea.
