Two More Arrested in Baruipur Lynching Case, Total Seven Detained
The police in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district have arrested two more individuals in connection with the lynching of Indrajit Mondal, a 35-year-old man who was killed by a mob on suspicion of involvement in the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl. The arrests were made on Saturday, bringing the total number of detainees to seven.
According to officials, the police identified the suspects by examining multiple video recordings of the incident. Among the latest arrests, Shamim Ali Khan is alleged to have been seen in a video dragging Mondal, whose hands were tied, after the mob had attacked him.
The authorities have stated that Mondal was innocent of any involvement in the crime against the minor girl. The girl's body was discovered in a pond in Baruipur last week, triggering public outrage and the subsequent mob violence.
The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of mob lynching and the importance of due process. Investigations are ongoing, and further details are awaited.
