Two Gangsters Killed, Police Officer Injured in Bahadurgarh Encounter
Two wanted criminals linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang were killed in a joint operation by Haryana Police and Delhi Police in Bahadurgarh on Thursday. A police officer also sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Pravesh, a resident of Tibba Danasher in Hisar, and Himanshu, son of Sushil Kumar from village Jakhod Khera in Hisar. Both were accused in the murder of Kapil, a gym owner in Hansi, on June 11. Each carried a reward of ₹1 lakh on their heads.
According to police, specific intelligence inputs indicated that the two accused, armed with sophisticated weapons, were present in Bahadurgarh and planning a serious offence. A joint team comprising the Special Task Force of Bahadurgarh, Haryana Police, and the Counter Intelligence Special Cell of Delhi Police moved to surround them.
“On spotting the police, the accused opened indiscriminate fire on the police team. In self-defence and in accordance with the law, the police retaliated,” a police statement said. In the exchange of fire, both accused and one police officer were injured. Bullets also struck the bulletproof jackets of four other personnel, “saving their lives and averting a major tragedy,” the statement added.
All three injured were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Pravesh and Himanshu dead during treatment. The injured police officer is reported to be stable. Weapons and other evidence were recovered from the spot. Police said further legal proceedings are underway and an investigation is ongoing.
Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said the operation was conducted in line with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s “zero-tolerance policy towards crime.”
“Haryana Police is taking firm and uncompromising action against organised crime, gangster networks, and all those who challenge the rule of law,” the DGP said, adding that the teams showed “exceptional courage, restraint, and professional competence.” He also wished the injured officer a speedy recovery.
