Two Dead in Noida Sewage Tank Tragedy: Worker and Guard Suffocate
Two people died after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a sewage treatment plant (STP) tank at a residential society in Greater Noida, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred at Eldeco Society in Sector 150 under the Knowledge Park police station area. The victims were identified as sanitation worker Shashikant Sharma and security guard Akash.
According to police, Sharma entered the tank during cleaning and lost consciousness. Guard Akash then entered to rescue him but also collapsed. Both were pulled out by rescue teams and rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead.
Police have registered a case and arrested the contractor responsible for the work. Investigators are examining whether safety protocols were followed, including the provision of protective gear and gas detection devices.
This tragedy follows a recent incident in the same police station area where a six-year-old boy, Avyaan Surya, died after falling into a water-filled pit at Kala Dham Society. In that case, the Greater Noida Authority filed an FIR against the contractor and supervisors, terminating their services.
The back-to-back fatalities have raised concerns about safety lapses at work and construction sites in Greater Noida. Residents are demanding stricter enforcement of safety regulations and greater accountability to prevent such incidents.
