Two men arrested in connection with the murder of a cashier at a chemist shop in Chandigarh were injured in a police encounter on Thursday morning, after they allegedly attempted to escape from custody and opened fire on police personnel.

The accused, identified as Sunny Mehra and Aryan Sharma, sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and are currently admitted to Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16. Hospital sources state their condition is stable.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 6 am near the Panjab University forest area. The accused were being brought to the Crime Branch office in Sector 11 from Jammu, where they had been arrested the previous day. During the journey, the SUV carrying the accused and police personnel met with an accident and crashed into a tree. Taking advantage of the confusion, the accused allegedly attempted to flee and opened fire at the police team. In response, police fired back, injuring both men in the legs.
