Twin Attacks on Police in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Three Killed, 34 Injured
Three policemen were killed and 34 others injured in two separate militant attacks in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials reported on Wednesday.
In the first incident, attackers targeted a police convoy in Lower Dir district using hand grenades and automatic weapons. The assault occurred near Ladam Top at Haider as the convoy was passing through. Three police personnel were killed and 19 injured. The attackers also set two police vehicles on fire. Injured personnel were taken to hospital for treatment. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the assailants.
In a separate attack in Bannu district, security forces foiled a suicide bombing attempt on the Miryan Police Station. According to officials, an explosives-laden vehicle was intercepted and destroyed before it could reach the station. Four attackers were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire. Fifteen police personnel were injured, ten of them critically. The critically injured were referred to Peshawar for treatment. Bannu District Police Officer Captain (Retd) Muhammad Furqan Bilal confirmed the incident, stating that the situation was being assessed and details on casualties would be shared later.
The attack in Bannu came after a similar incident in April, when a suicide car bomb at the Domel Police Station in Bannu killed at least five civilians and injured 13 others, including one policeman.
Authorities said investigations into both attacks are underway, with further details to be released after verification. The region has experienced periodic militant violence, with security forces frequently conducting operations to maintain order.
