Trainee IPS Officer Arrested for Sexual Assault of Co-Trainee in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, accused of sexually assaulting a female co-trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), was arrested on Wednesday, July 28. The accused, M Uday Krishna Reddy (33), hails from Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, and was booked on July 18 under charges of sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation.

According to the Hyderabad Police, Reddy was produced before a local court and sent to judicial remand for 14 days. The case was registered at Attapur police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to assault with intent to outrage modesty, sexual harassment, stalking, and insulting the modesty of a woman, along with sections of the Information Technology Act.

Reddy, who previously served as a police constable, cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in 2025 and joined the IPS. He had been undergoing training at SVPNPA since December 2025. Earlier, he completed training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA).

Police investigations revealed that Reddy first contacted the victim, a fellow IPS trainee, through social media in mid-2025 after she responded to his post about his journey to becoming an IPS officer. They exchanged contact details and built a rapport, eventually entering into a relationship. However, the relationship soon turned volatile, marked by frequent arguments, emotional manipulation, possessiveness, and abusive behaviour.

According to the complaint, Reddy repeatedly threatened to commit suicide, displayed weapons, insulted the victim, and made persistent demands for "multiple relationships." He allegedly threw and damaged her laptop, created fake social media accounts after being blocked, threatened to release private chats, and contacted her family and colleagues without her consent. The victim eventually ended the relationship and married another person.

Following her marriage, Reddy intensified the harassment, leading to the filing of the complaint. Based on a thorough investigation, a special team formed by the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety Wing) P Lavanya Naik Jadav, took Reddy into custody near Aramghar X Roads.

Reddy had earlier taken to social media to call the allegations "baseless" and had approached the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the First Information Report (FIR). The court adjourned the matter for four weeks. Police stated that further investigation is ongoing, and legal action will be taken strictly in accordance with the law.
