Top Government School Rankers in TNEA Prefer Computer Science, Many Choose PSG College

In the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026, a significant majority of top-ranked students from the government school quota have chosen computer science and engineering (CSE) as their preferred course. Notably, PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore has become the top destination for at least half of these rank holders, replacing the College of Engineering, Guindy, which was previously their first choice.

Students cited feedback from seniors and the presence of relatives in Coimbatore as reasons for the shift. K. Pugalesh from Tiruchi, who secured the second rank, said he wants to pursue CSE at PSG College because his sister works at an IT firm in Coimbatore. The son of a small-scale farmer, he plans to take up a job immediately after graduation.

R. Lakshmipathi and V. Paramesh, classmates at a government model school in Krishnagiri district, secured the 7th and 8th ranks. They decided on PSG College based on a senior's feedback. Both are first-generation college students, with parents working as daily wage earners.

G. Mugilan from Namakkal, ranked high, prefers electronics and communications engineering (ECE) at PSG College because he enjoys hardware. The son of a weaver running six power looms at home, he will be the first in his family to attend college. Despite the noise from the looms, he said it did not hinder his studies.

P. Devadarshini from Salem, who secured the top rank, echoed similar sentiments about growing up with noise. She wants to study CSE at College of Engineering, Guindy, and later appear for civil services exams. S. Atchaya, also from Salem and ranked 10th, has similar aspirations.

Other notable students include M. Gokulakrishnan from a Salem government model school, who scored well in JEE Mains and secured a CSE seat at IIIT Bengaluru. S. Archana from Veerapandi received a full scholarship for CSE at VIT, Vellore.
