TN Engineering Colleges Instructed: No Fees for Government School Quota Students
The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) in Tamil Nadu has issued a directive to all engineering college principals to refrain from collecting any fees from students admitted under the horizontal reservation category. This category reserves 7.5% of seats for students who have studied in government schools from Class VI to Class XII.
In an official press release, DoTE emphasised that admissions must be conducted strictly according to the prescribed procedures. Colleges are instructed to admit students only after verifying their eligibility under the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) guidelines. Failure to comply may result in action against the institution.
The directive aims to ensure that deserving students from government schools are not burdened with upfront fee payments during the admission process. DoTE has also provided a grievance email address (tndote@tndote.com) for students or parents to report any violations.
This measure is part of ongoing efforts to uphold reservation policies and ensure equitable access to technical education in the state. Engineering colleges are expected to adhere to the order without exception.
