Tiruppur road accident kills six family members; driver arrested

Six members of a family, including two children, died in a collision between a car and a tanker lorry near Uthukuli in Tiruppur district on Friday evening. The accident took place at Kakkapallam while the family was returning to Salem after attending a funeral.

The deceased have been identified as Mugilan (35), his father-in-law Easwaran (55), mother-in-law Thirumagal (50), grandmother Sivagami (65), and Mugilan's children Srinithu (3) and Kanish (9 months). Mugilan's wife Hema (30) sustained a fractured limb and is undergoing treatment at the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital.

The Uthukuli police have registered a case and arrested the lorry driver, Palanisamy (58). The bodies were retrieved from the vehicle and sent for autopsy. Further investigation is underway.
