Tirumala Brahmotsavams: Extensive security and crowd control plan unveiled
The annual nine-day Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, beginning September 15, is expected to draw lakhs of devotees from across the country. In preparation, the Tirupati district police and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) have jointly formulated a comprehensive security and traffic management plan. The measures include restrictions on private vehicles, enhanced surveillance, and deployment of additional personnel to ensure a safe and orderly festival.
On Friday, Tirupati District Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu and TTD Chief Vigilance and Security Officer (CVSO) Murali Krishna inspected key areas in Tirumala, including the Ring Road, major traffic junctions, and important pilgrim movement corridors. The inspection was aimed at assessing the readiness of infrastructure and security arrangements for the influx of devotees.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Subbarayudu said crowd management and traffic regulation would be the primary focus. Command and sub-control rooms have been equipped to continuously monitor the situation and facilitate quick responses to any emergency. Given Tirumala’s limited parking capacity of approximately 2,500 to 3,000 vehicles, private and yellow-board vehicles will be regulated. Designated parking facilities are being identified in Tirupati, and devotees arriving in private vehicles will be encouraged to park there and use APSRTC buses to reach Tirumala and return after darshan.
Mr. Subbarayudu appealed to pilgrims to cooperate with the police and the TTD and to make greater use of public transport. Special traffic restrictions are also being planned for Garuda Seva, which is considered the biggest draw of the Brahmotsavams. Details of the routes, permissible vehicle types, and timings of restrictions will be announced shortly.
Mr. Murali Krishna explained that security preparations are being coordinated by the district police and the TTD’s vigilance, security, and engineering wings. More than 2,800 CCTV cameras installed across Tirumala have been integrated with the Command Control Centre, enabling round-the-clock surveillance through facial recognition and automated analytics. Additional cameras are being deployed at identified pressure points to detect and manage sudden crowd surges.
The Brahmotsavams, which commemorate the descent of Lord Venkateswara on earth, are among the most significant festivals at the Tirumala temple. The event features a series of rituals and processions, with the Garuda Seva attracting the largest number of devotees. The authorities have urged all pilgrims to follow instructions and cooperate with the administration to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience.
The elaborate planning underscores the commitment of the district administration and the TTD to safeguard the welfare of pilgrims while preserving the sanctity of the celebrations. With the integration of modern surveillance technology and coordinated ground-level arrangements, the authorities are striving to address potential challenges proactively.
