Three Arrested as 390 Kg of Banned Gutkha Seized in Villupuram

In a coordinated operation, the police seized 390 kg of gutkha and other banned tobacco products from a car and arrested three individuals at Arunkurukkai in Villupuram district on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducting vehicle checks intercepted a car coming from Bengaluru. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 390 kg of gutkha packed in gunny bags and immediately seized the contraband.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shanu (24), Mohammed Yasin (45), and Ayan (19), all residents of Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law.

Gutkha, a chewing tobacco product, is banned in Tamil Nadu under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, due to its harmful health effects. The seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade of such items.
