Thiruvananthapuram Police Dismantles Online Loan App Fraud, 20 Arrested

The Thiruvananthapuram City police on Monday busted an online loan application fraud operating from the city. Nearly 20 individuals, including some from other states, were apprehended from a location in Sreekaryam, where the racket is suspected to have run a call centre, official sources said.

The arrests were made during a raid by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) as part of Operation Toofan, an anti-drug enforcement drive. However, the search, initially prompted by intelligence about migrant workers involved in drug trafficking in the area, uncovered the loan app scam instead. Around 50 computers were seized from the premises.

While police have not disclosed the full extent of the fraud, the racket is suspected of targeting numerous victims, including foreign nationals, through large-scale online loan app scams. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the financial impact and identify more victims. The suspects are in custody and face charges related to cyber fraud and extortion.
