Thailand school shooting: Teen kills seven, including grandparents and teachers

Bangkok, Thailand – A 14-year-old student opened fire at his home and school on the outskirts of Bangkok on Tuesday, killing seven people and wounding at least 23 others before taking his own life, authorities said.

The gunman, a student at Debsirin School in Nonthaburi, first killed his grandparents at the home they shared, then proceeded to the school where he shot five teachers. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters that the attacker still had more than 30 bullets left when he turned the gun on himself.

Nine of the injured were in critical condition, according to local health officials. The shooting began just after 10:00 local time (03:00 GMT), and police were deployed to the scene while the attack was still underway.

National police chief Kittiratt Phanphet said forensic officers found the gunman's shots were “quite accurate,” with several hitting vital spots on the body. The prime minister described the attack as “well prepared” with “clear steps and clear goals.”

The attacker has not been publicly named, and police have not disclosed a motive. Prime Minister Anutin said the boy may have been stressed about his studies. Investigations are continuing, with officers seen removing computer equipment and boxes from the home the shooter shared with his grandparents.

The shooting is the second at a school in Thailand this year, and it has renewed pressure on the government for stronger action on gun control. Thailand has some of the highest rates of gun ownership in the region, and previous incidents have led to calls for stricter laws.

Civil society groups have urged authorities to address gun violence, but progress has been slow. The latest tragedy has intensified public debate, with many expressing grief and anger over the loss of life. The school has been closed, and counseling is being provided to students and staff.

The Thai government has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and promised a thorough investigation. Prime Minister Anutin said authorities would review security measures at schools to prevent future incidents. He also called for calm and urged the public not to spread unverified information.
