Telangana pitches itself as safe, strategic investment hub, targets trillion-dollar economy

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday invited industry leaders to invest in Telangana, describing the State as one of the country's most strategic and secure investment destinations. Speaking at a meeting with representatives of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), he outlined the government's long-term vision to transform Telangana into a global economic powerhouse and achieve a trillion-dollar economy by 2037.

Mr. Reddy assured investors that the State government would provide complete support and protection for their investments. He emphasised that Telangana was committed to policy continuity, irrespective of political changes. Good policies introduced by previous governments would be continued, he said, while new reforms were being implemented to accelerate growth.

The Chief Minister recalled that former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, a son of Telangana, had introduced the Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation (LPG) reforms that reshaped the country's economy and helped place India on the global stage. He noted that economic liberalisation had played a crucial role in the nation's progress.

Reviewing Telangana's growth trajectory, Mr. Reddy acknowledged the contributions of successive governments. He mentioned that the then Chief Minister of combined Andhra Pradesh had attracted major investments and brought global figures such as Bill Gates and Bill Clinton to Hyderabad. Between 2004 and 2014, infrastructure projects including the international airport, the Outer Ring Road and expansion of the pharma and IT sectors further strengthened Hyderabad's position, he added.

The present government, he said, was building on those foundations with fresh policy initiatives. The Chief Minister stated that his government had unveiled the 'Telangana Rising 2047' vision during a global summit attended by representatives from 175 countries, held in Future City last December. The government's goal is to increase Telangana's contribution to the country's GDP from the current 5% to 10% by 2047.

Outlining a three-tier development strategy centred around Hyderabad and its surrounding regions, Mr. Reddy explained: CORE (inside the Outer Ring Road) will focus on the services sector; PURE (between the Outer Ring Road and the proposed Regional Ring Road) is dedicated to manufacturing industries; and RARE (beyond the Regional Ring Road up to the State borders) will focus on agriculture and allied sectors.

The existing 160-km Outer Ring Road serves a population of nearly 13 million people, while a 360-km Regional Ring Road is being developed to support industrial expansion. The government plans to create industrial clusters, provide land and infrastructure, construct radial roads and improve connectivity to ports, including a proposed 12-lane corridor linking Bharat Future City to Machilipatnam Port.

Positioning Telangana as a key beneficiary of the global 'China Plus One' manufacturing strategy, the Chief Minister said the State was competing with leading economies such as China, Japan and Germany in advanced manufacturing. On major infrastructure projects in the pipeline, he said the Centre had approved airports for Warangal and Adilabad, and three proposed bullet train corridors were expected to connect Hyderabad (Shamshabad) with Chennai, Pune and Bengaluru.

On agriculture, Mr. Reddy said Telangana's fertile lands offer significant opportunities for horticulture, floriculture and food processing. The government was focusing on cold storage facilities and related infrastructure to strengthen the agricultural value chain.
