Telangana govt to launch 1 lakh LIG houses in Hyderabad region on July 20: eligibility, process out

The Telangana government's scheme to construct one lakh houses for Lower Income Groups (LIG) in the Core Urban Region (CURE) will be launched on Monday, July 20. The houses are to be built in multi-storey buildings, up to 10 floors.

On the launch date, the government will release a brochure detailing the eligibility criteria, application process, and other essential information. Housing and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, along with Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Rangareddy in-charge Minister D. Sridhar Babu, and Minorities Welfare Minister Md. Azharuddin, will unveil the brochure.

The scheme treats each constituency as a separate unit, encouraging applicants to apply within their own constituency. This design aims to ensure that beneficiaries do not have to relocate far from their sources of livelihood, children's schools, or current residences.

Since the Congress government came to power in Telangana, Indiramma Houses have been constructed mainly in rural districts and parts of Medchal-Malkajgiri district. These houses were provided with a subsidy of ₹5 lakh, making them 100% subsidised dwellings. The second phase of the scheme was launched in Asifabad in June.

Rolling out the scheme in and around Hyderabad posed a challenge due to limited land availability. In May, the state cabinet approved the construction of one lakh LIG houses in CURE. Subsequently, the Housing department identified government land in the region. As a pilot project, around 12,000 houses will be constructed, with 500 in each of the 24 constituencies in the CURE area.
