Telangana CM Urges Centre for 11.56 Lakh Rural Houses, Expanded Works Under VB G RAM G

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) in New Delhi. He requested the allocation of 11.56 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) 2.0 for the state.

During the meeting, Mr. Reddy stated that rural housing construction in Telangana had been neglected during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government's tenure. He emphasised the need for enhanced central support to address the housing requirements of rural families.

The Chief Minister also urged the Union Minister to expand the scope of works under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) programme. He cited challenges posed by El Nino conditions and proposed the inclusion of 10 additional works aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening rural incomes.

Among the suggested works were development of vegetable trellis (pandals), fodder plots, mulberry gardens, and silkworm-rearing sheds. Mr. Reddy also sought opportunities for farmland development, water conservation, and restoration of agricultural lands affected by natural calamities.

Further, the Chief Minister requested that works related to the state government’s Indiramma housing programme be included under the VB G RAM G scheme. He also sought providing beneficiaries with employment for up to 90 days.

Mr. Reddy urged Mr. Chouhan to extend necessary approvals and support for the proposed initiatives, stating they would strengthen rural infrastructure, improve livelihoods, and provide additional employment opportunities in Telangana’s villages.
