Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal surrendered before a Goa court on Monday and was sent to jail to serve a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence in a sexual assault case dating back to 2013. The Supreme Court had on August 25 directed him to surrender within three weeks after the Bombay High Court upheld his conviction. The case relates to allegations made by a former colleague at the magazine. Indian law bars the identification of complainants in sexual assault cases, and the complainant's identity has not been disclosed.

Self-determination declaration in Cardiff: The leaders of the main Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh parties signed a joint agreement at a rare meeting in the Welsh capital, Cardiff, declaring their right to self-determination. "Our nations have the right to self-determination. No Westminster government has the right to block democracy or undermine the principle that our people will decide their own future," they said, referring to the United Kingdom-wide Parliament in London. Under the UK's devolved settlement, the powers of the Scottish Parliament, the Senedd and the Northern Ireland Assembly are granted by Westminster.
Gurugram hit-and-run: A woman biker was thrown off her motorcycle after a car rammed into her on Golf Course Road on Sunday and fled the scene, leaving the two-wheeler to slide several metres along the road. Police identified an accused and launched a suo motu investigation. Wholesale inflation rises: Wholesale price-based inflation rose to 9.92% in August from 9.78% in July, government data showed, driven by higher prices of food, manufactured items, and fuel and power.
