Teen Lifeguard Rescues Boy from Ocean, Trump Offers Honour

A 16-year-old rookie lifeguard rescued a 10-year-old boy from the ocean at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California, an incident captured on video by a bystander.

The child had been swept approximately 15 yards offshore when lifeguard Ryder Williams reached him. Several beachgoers also joined the rescue, which lasted just over two minutes.

United States President Donald Trump has since invited Williams to the White House to receive a high civilian honour. The White House stated that the invitation recognises the teenager's bravery and quick action.

The rescue took place on a regular patrol day. Williams, who had recently completed his lifeguard training, was on duty when the call came in. The boy was treated for minor injuries and released to his family.

Local officials praised Williams and the bystanders for their coordinated effort. The incident has drawn national attention due to the video and the subsequent presidential recognition.
