TDPP seeks law against social media abuse, funds for Andhra irrigation
Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, leader of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party (TDPP), on Sunday called for stricter legislation to tackle social media abuse. He made the request after an all-party meeting on the Monsoon Session of Parliament, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
Devarayalu urged the central government to allow a debate on social media abuse and bring a law to deal firmly with those spreading mischief. He also sought financial assistance of ₹60,000 crore for irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh.
The TDPP leader appealed for stringent action against illegal fund transfers through mule accounts, shell companies, and cyber frauds. He raised several national and state issues at the meeting, including expediting the linking of the Godavari and Penna rivers.
Devarayalu highlighted the sharp rise in shrimp feed prices due to turmoil in West Asia, which has burdened aqua farmers, and the problems faced by tobacco growers. He requested support for developing Rayalaseema as a horticulture hub.
He informed the meeting that the Andhra Pradesh government aims to complete the first phase of the Polavaram irrigation project by March 2027 and 36 other irrigation projects by 2029. Devarayalu expressed hope that opposition parties would support the Women's Reservation Bill and other key legislation, while noting that the YSR Congress Party's attempts to stall the construction of capital Amaravati would be highlighted in Parliament.
