TDP Demands Arrest of Former Speaker in Srikakulam Land Scam
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has called for the immediate arrest of former Speaker Thammineni Seetharam and his family members T. Vani and T. Chiranjeevi Nag in connection with an alleged land scam in Srikakulam district. TDP Vizianagaram Parliament wing in-charge and Vizianagaram District Cooperative Central Bank chairman Kimidi Nagarjuna made the demand on Tuesday, claiming that their involvement in the case has been proven beyond doubt.
Addressing the media, Mr. Nagarjuna alleged that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders had grabbed prime land on Ring Road in Srikakulam during the previous YSRCP government (2019-24). He claimed that forged documents and legal heir certificates were created at the behest of Mr. Seetharam. According to Mr. Nagarjuna, while the Pusapati family were the legal heirs of the property, the then government tampered with records and handed over the land to YSRCP leaders on a lease basis for constructing a party office.
Mr. Nagarjuna noted that seven other individuals accused in the case have already been arrested, and urged the police and revenue departments to arrest the remaining accused, including Mr. Seetharam, without further delay. He also demanded a fresh inquiry into the matter and called for the land to be returned to the Pusapati family.
The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions between the TDP and YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh. The land scam case has been under investigation by the police, with multiple arrests made earlier. The TDP's demand for arrest is part of a broader push for accountability in alleged land grabbing cases from the previous regime.
No official response from the YSRCP or the former Speaker was available at the time of reporting. The police have not confirmed any imminent arrests. The investigation is reportedly ongoing, with authorities examining the documents and ownership claims.
