Tata Power to Build 800 MW Clean Energy Projects in AP with ₹5,350 Crore Investment
Andhra Pradesh IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh will lay the foundation stone for two clean energy projects totalling 800 MW in the Rayalaseema region on July 30. The projects, to be developed by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), involve an investment of ₹5,350 crore.
The first project is a 400 MW wind power plant at Kanekal in Anantapur district, with an investment of ₹3,500 crore. The second is a 400 MW solar power project at Pattikonda in Kurnool district, costing ₹2,250 crore. According to an official release, the objective is to meet the clean energy needs of large-scale industries coming up in the state.
The Pattikonda solar project will be set up on 2,700 acres, while the Kanekal wind project will occupy 760 acres. Combined, these projects are expected to generate employment for about 4,000 people during the construction phase.
The state government has stated that it is committed to transforming Rayalaseema into a Renewable Energy (RE) hub, and these TPREL projects are a major step in that direction under the AP Integrated Clean Energy Policy–2024. Large-scale RE projects by ReNew Power and SAEL are already in various stages of execution in the region.
The Tata projects have secured 800 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity at Anantapur-II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations, enabling efficient evacuation of renewable power through the national transmission grid.
The TPREL projects will benefit more than 1,100 agricultural families by providing long-term financial security and steady incomes. The Kanekal wind project will be developed by TPREL in technical collaboration with Suzlon.
