Tamil Nadu signs ₹12,300-crore MoUs in London, expects 10,000 jobs
The Tamil Nadu government signed a set of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in London on Monday (September 14, 2026) in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, covering proposed investments of about ₹12,300 crore and an expected 10,000 jobs across manufacturing, engineering services and power equipment.
The agreements were signed during Mr. Vijay's first official overseas visit, which the State government said was aimed at attracting investment to Tamil Nadu.
The largest of the MoUs was with Samvardhana Motherson International Limited and its European and United Kingdom-based joint venture companies, for an investment of approximately ₹11,000 crore. According to an official release, this is expected to create employment for around 7,000 people in design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics. The MoU was exchanged between Barry Painter, global head of marketing and communications at Samvardhana Motherson International Group, and Deepak Jacob, managing director of Guidance Tamil Nadu.
A second MoU was signed with Ernst & Young, headquartered in the United Kingdom, to facilitate the setting up of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in the State. It involves an investment of around ₹1,000 crore and is expected to create 2,000 high-value jobs. The proposed centre will be located in the newly announced 'GCC corridor' on Mount-Poonamallee Road in Chennai, the release said.
Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group also signed an MoU, committing to expand its GCCs in Tiruchi and Chennai through its Indian entity, Zriya Solutions. The expansion is expected to create 600 high-value jobs in embedded systems, electrification and industrial digitalisation. Michael Carlson, founder and chief executive officer of Sigma Technology Group, and Krishna Radhakrishnan, chief executive officer of Zriya Solutions (part of Sigma AB Private Limited), exchanged the MoU with Mr. Jacob.
A fourth MoU was signed with Wilson Power Solutions for the next phase of growth of the electrical and electronic equipment manufacturing sector in the State. It involves an investment of ₹300 crore in Tiruvallur district and the creation of 400 new jobs. Hari Krishna Malepati, group technical director of Wilson Power Solutions; Dennis Sorby, group finance director; Kumaran Periasamy, High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom; and senior government officials were present, the release added.
Taken together, the four MoUs signed in London represent proposed investments of roughly ₹12,300 crore and about 10,000 jobs. MoUs of this kind are statements of intent rather than binding commitments, and such investments typically proceed in phases, subject to approvals and prevailing business conditions.
Later in the day, Dheeraj Hinduja, executive chairman of Ashok Leyland; Prakash P. Chhabria, executive chairman, and Rita Hinduja Chhabria, director of Finolex Industries Limited, met the Chief Minister. They discussed the steps taken after the signing of a ₹2,500-crore MoU during the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors' Conference held in August, as well as the progress of investments, according to the release.
The group expressed its commitment to continuing to invest and expand its business in Tamil Nadu. It also expressed interest in increasing investments in the renewable energy sector in the State, particularly in wind power. The discussions covered ways to increase exports of commercial vehicles manufactured in Tamil Nadu and to strengthen the State's role as an export hub for automobile manufacturing.
