Tamil Nadu school headmaster, teacher arrested for sexual harassment of girl students
The headmaster and a teacher at Government Panchayat Union Primary School in Vedanvadi village, Tiruvannamalai district, have been arrested and suspended following allegations of sexual harassment of girl students under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The police identified the arrested individuals as S. Ravi, 58, headmaster, and D. Muralidaran, 42, teacher. Initial inquiries revealed that a group of survivors contacted the child helpline (1098) to report the harassment.
Upon receiving the alert, a team from the School Education Department, led by Branch Educational Officer S. Thilainayaki, inspected the school and spoke to 12 affected students from classes 4 and 5.
Based on the team's findings, a case was registered at the All Women Police Station in Tiruvannamalai town. Both the headmaster and teacher were arrested and are currently lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore. A detailed investigation is underway.
