Tamil Nadu Police Book Over 3,000 Cases in One Day Against Vehicles Without Number Plates
Police teams in the central zone of Tamil Nadu, covering nine districts, registered 3,284 cases on Sunday against owners of two-wheelers and four-wheelers found driving without number plates. Two-wheelers accounted for 3,088 of these cases.
Intensive vehicle checks were conducted across the central zone. The highest number of cases were booked in Karur district with 520, followed by 514 in Pudukottai, 489 in Tiruchi, 467 in Thanjavur, 375 in Nagapattinam, 299 in Ariyalur, 226 in Tiruvarur, 224 in Perambalur, and 170 in Mayiladuthurai district.
Seven cases were registered against vehicles belonging to different political parties that were found without number plates. A police press release stated that it would be difficult to trace the registration number of vehicles without plates if they are involved in an accident.
The Inspector-General of Police, Central Zone, has advised the Superintendents of Police of the nine districts to conduct vehicle checks daily and confiscate vehicles found violating the rules, according to the release.
