Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Condemns Killing of Three Tamils, Demands Probe
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of three Tamil men by Karnataka Forest Department personnel in an alleged exchange of fire near the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary in Chamarajanagar district. He demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident and constitution of a high-level committee to probe the matter.
In a post on social media platform X, Mr. Vijay identified the deceased as Anthony Sami, John Rose Peter and Kumar, all hailing from Tamil Nadu and residing in Hanur taluk of Karnataka. They were reportedly killed in the early hours of August 15 in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary area.
“I strongly condemn this killing. The explanation given by the Karnataka Forest Department regarding the incident is unacceptable,” Mr. Vijay stated. He urged the Karnataka government to ensure that those responsible for the killings are punished, and to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the victims.
The Chief Minister also called upon the Karnataka government to take appropriate measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents. His remarks come amid growing concerns over the safety of people from Tamil Nadu residing in border areas and the need for clear protocols to avoid such confrontations.
The incident has drawn attention to the challenges faced by forest personnel and local residents in regions where wildlife sanctuaries border human habitation. While the Karnataka Forest Department has not issued a detailed public statement yet, the alleged exchange of fire is reported to have occurred during an anti-poaching or surveillance operation.
