Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Criticises CM Vijay Over Law and Order Situation

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday (July 6, 2026) criticised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay over the law and order situation in the state, citing recent crimes in Coimbatore and Virudhunagar districts.

Nagenthran alleged that the state government led by Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) had failed to ensure public safety, pointing to the abduction of a Congress functionary in Coimbatore and an attempt to murder a girl in Virudhunagar. He accused the government of being a "mute spectator" to these incidents.

"The fact that Mr. Vijay is struggling to provide safety in public spaces even to functionaries of its alliance partners that are part of the TVK-led government, only exposes his administrative failure," Nagenthran said. He added that people who voted for change are now fearing for their lives.

Nagenthran urged the chief minister to focus on maintaining law and order and to take action against offenders without compromise to ensure public safety.

The remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in Tamil Nadu, where law and order has become a key issue of contention between the ruling TVK and opposition parties.
