Tamil Nadu appoints facilitation officers to help students secure education loans

The Tamil Nadu Collegiate Education Department has appointed Facilitation Officers in all districts to assist students in obtaining education loans for higher education in engineering, polytechnic, and arts and science colleges.

These officers, who hold the rank of Assistant Professors, will guide students through the loan application process and provide necessary assistance, according to a government press release. They will collect details of students seeking loans and forward them to the district lead bank manager, acting as a bridge between the bank and the student.

The Facilitation Officers will work alongside Nodal Officers at the District Collectorates, who are already involved in student enrolment. District Collectors have been instructed to hold periodic review meetings with district coordinators of all banks, Facilitation Officers, and Nodal Officers to ensure swift and hassle-free loan disbursal. These meetings will also review pending loan applications and take steps to clear them quickly, the release added.

During a review meeting of the Higher Education Department on July 6, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin instructed officials to ensure the availability of collateral-free education loans so that no student is forced to discontinue higher education due to financial constraints.
