Suzlon to open new Rs 10,000-cr turbine blade plant in AP; Lokesh to inaugurate on Aug 25
IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh will inaugurate Suzlon Energy Limited's S144 turbine blade manufacturing unit at Hulikera village in Kanekal Mandal of Anantapur district on August 25. The facility, set up with an investment of ₹10,000 crore, will have an annual production capacity of 1,325 megawatts, according to an official release.
The new plant is expected to strengthen Suzlon's manufacturing footprint in Andhra Pradesh, where the company has already established itself as the largest wind energy developer. As per the release, Suzlon's installed capacity in the state currently exceeds 1,700 megawatts. The company has also announced plans to set up an additional 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh by 2030.
Suzlon has been operating in Anantapur district since 2004, with significant wind power projects in the region. The company already runs a rotor blade manufacturing unit in the nearby Uravakonda constituency. Its operations in the state are carried out in collaboration with prominent firms, including Tata Power.
The company's major customers include Tata Power, Waaree Forever Energies Private Limited, Helios Infratech Private Limited, Mytrah Vayu Private Limited, ReNew, and Axis Wind Farms.
The inauguration of the new facility underscores the growing emphasis on renewable energy in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in the Anantapur region, which has favourable conditions for wind power generation. With the government pushing for clean energy adoption, investments such as Suzlon's are likely to contribute to local employment and the state's renewable energy capacity.
Suzlon's expansion plans align with national targets for renewable energy. India has committed to achieving 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030, and wind power is a critical component of that goal. Andhra Pradesh, with its long coastline and windy inland areas, is seen as a key contributor.
The new plant at Hulikera is expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for local residents, though exact job numbers have not been disclosed. The production capacity of 1,325 megawatts indicates the facility's role in supporting large-scale wind projects across the region.
