Suspect in Irish Murder Arrested in Jordan; Interpol Alerted
A man sought by Irish police for questioning in connection with the murder of a woman in County Kerry has been arrested in Jordan, authorities confirmed.
In a statement, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána (the Irish police force) said they were aware that the individual had been taken into custody by Jordanian authorities. The spokesperson noted that Gardaí had not formally requested his arrest or detention, but that police headquarters in Dublin had been informed of the development.
The murder investigation began after a woman in her 40s died following an incident at a residence in Killarney, County Kerry, on 7 July. The victim was identified locally as Jamey Carney, originally from New York, who had moved to the area approximately five years ago and lived with her daughter.
Two days after the incident, Gardaí announced that a man they wished to interview in connection with the murder had already left the country. In response, international police cooperation bodies Interpol and Europol were alerted to the investigation.
The arrest in Jordan marks a significant step in the cross-border inquiry. Authorities have not disclosed the specific charges the man faces in Jordan or details of the extradition process. However, the case underscores the collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies across jurisdictions.
