Supreme Court to Hear DMK Plea Against TN CM Vijay's Statements in Stampede Case
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to urgently hear a petition filed by the DMK seeking a direction to restrain Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Minister Aadhav Arjuna from making public statements that could “influence material witnesses” in the Karur stampede case. The DMK’s application alleges that the ruling TVK leaders are using their positions to threaten witnesses and make false accusations against political opponents. The court will take up the matter on Tuesday.
In a separate development, a suggestion to bring T.T.V. Dhinakaran, founder of the AMMK, back into the AIADMK was made during a party meeting chaired by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami in Thanjavur. The meeting, which included office bearers from various party units, discussed organisational matters, but no formal decision has been announced.
Meanwhile, DMK’s Gen Z wing leader A. Anbanantham withdrew his anticipatory bail petition before the Madras High Court in a case registered under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. The case stems from a derogatory Instagram post referring to Chief Minister Vijay, his wife, son, and an actor. The petitioner’s counsel withdrew the plea after the judge indicated he was not inclined to grant relief.
