Supreme Court takes charge of Ram Temple fund probe, appoints new SIT

The Supreme Court of India has assumed direct oversight of the investigation into alleged embezzlement of donations collected for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. A new Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, will now conduct the probe, replacing the local police force that had been handling the case.

In its order, the Court directed the Shri Ram Teerth Kshetra Trust, the body responsible for the temple's construction, to preserve all donation receipts and financial accounts for scrutiny. The Court also cautioned against any attempts to politicise the investigation, emphasising the need for an impartial inquiry.

So far, eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged fund pilferage. The Supreme Court's intervention comes amid public concerns over the handling of the case by local authorities. The Court will monitor the progress of the investigation to ensure transparency and accountability.

The case involves allegations that a portion of the vast donations collected for the Ram Temple construction was misappropriated. The temple, a landmark project in Ayodhya, has garnered widespread public support and significant financial contributions from devotees across India and abroad.

Legal experts have welcomed the Supreme Court's move, stating that it reinforces the rule of law and ensures that the investigation is conducted without external influence.
