Supreme Court fines comedians, YouTubers Rs 3 lakh each for non-compliance in disability remarks case

The Supreme Court on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh each on comedian Samay Raina and YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani for failing to comply with its directions in a case involving alleged insensitive remarks about persons with disabilities on the show 'India’s Got Latent'.

A three-judge bench observed that the defendants had “taken the court for a ride” by not adhering to their undertakings. The court noted a brazen violation of statements made before it, and questioned the delay in filing a compliance affidavit.

The bench remarked that the attempt to justify the misconduct by claiming a late affidavit was not acceptable, as no affidavit had actually been filed. The case pertains to remarks made during the show that were deemed offensive towards individuals with disabilities.
