Stalin demands NEET abolition, calls it only solution to student issues

DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) reiterated his party's demand for the abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), asserting that it is the only lasting solution to problems faced by students. Speaking in New Delhi, Stalin said that scrapping NEET must be at the heart of student protests.

Stalin claimed that NEET was designed to enable large-scale irregularities, a warning his party had issued from the beginning. 'We were the first to warn that NEET was designed to enable large-scale irregularities. That is why the DMK has opposed NEET from the very beginning, consistently pointing out the dangers it poses,' he said.

The DMK leader also highlighted Tamil Nadu's historical role in defending social justice, noting that the state had paved the way for the First Constitutional Amendment. He said the state's only demand regarding NEET is its complete abolition. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test has been a contentious issue in Tamil Nadu, with the DMK and other parties arguing that it disadvantages students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds.
