Spider-Man: Brand New Day Opens Strong in India with Record Advance Bookings

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has hit theatres and is drawing large audiences in India. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film recorded advance bookings worth over Rs 85 crore gross for its opening weekend, including over Rs 45 crore gross for its opening day alone. The film is also reported to have surpassed the estimated Rs 90 crore opening-weekend advance booking record set by Avengers Endgame before its first show began.

The advance bookings have placed Spider-Man: Brand New Day on track for a notable opening at the Indian box office. The film sold more than 1.3 million tickets in advance on BookMyShow, ranking eighth among the highest pre-sales on the platform since August 2023. By 8 AM on release day, the film had collected Rs 3.95 crore net in India, running across 2,419 shows.

Several factors are contributing to the excitement. Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where Peter Parker's identity was erased from the world's memory, fans are eager to see how the character navigates his new reality. The appearance of Hulk in promotional material has also generated interest, hinting at a team-up within the MCU.

The film received a U/A 13+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). According to Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC requested the makers to mute or remove certain words at three points and to delete an eight-second lip-lock sequence. After these modifications, the film has a runtime of two hours and 24 minutes.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon. The Spider-Man franchise has a strong following in India, with Spider-Man: No Way Home grossing Rs 271 crore domestically and $1.91 billion worldwide.
