Sonam Wangchuk's Health 'Critical' on Day 19 of Hunger Strike; High Court Orders Monitoring

Activist Sonam Wangchuk's health has deteriorated significantly on the 19th day of his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, prompting the Delhi High Court to order the Union and Delhi governments to ensure regular medical check-ups.

Dr. Satish Lamba, who has been examining Wangchuk, said on Thursday that his condition has entered a critical stage. Wangchuk has lost over 9 kilograms of body weight but remains mentally alert. However, Dr. Lamba warned that his body may have started consuming muscle tissue, with organs potentially at risk next.

Despite the health crisis, Wangchuk has refused to end his fast without a response from the government, stating that calling off the strike prematurely would send a wrong message. Instead, he called on supporters to participate in a Parliament march planned by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on July 20.

The Delhi High Court directed that Wangchuk be regularly examined by government doctors. Wangchuk is demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over issues related to the country's education system.

Opposition leaders and members of the film industry have rallied in support of Wangchuk, who is known for his work on water conservation and education in Ladakh.
