Silence on NEET Protests: Opposition Accuses PM Modi, Amit Shah of Ignoring Student Unrest

Opposition leaders on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of failing to address the widespread protests over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The protests, which have been ongoing for several weeks, have seen students demanding a probe into reported paper leaks and malpractice.

Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said in Parliament that the silence of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister on such a critical issue affecting lakhs of students is 'unacceptable'. 'Despite the unrest, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister have not spoken a single word. They are ignoring the concerns of our youth,' Kharge said during Zero Hour.

The NEET protests erupted after allegations of a paper leak in certain states, with students claiming that the exam was not conducted fairly. Many have taken to the streets, demanding a cancellation of the exam or a fresh investigation. The opposition has been pressing for a debate in Parliament, but the government has so far not agreed.

In response, the government has maintained that the exam process was robust and that any allegations of foul play are being investigated by the appropriate authorities. However, no direct comment from the Prime Minister or the Home Minister has been made on the street protests.

The opposition has seized on this silence, arguing that it reflects a lack of accountability. 'When the youth of the country are raising their voices, the government should listen. This silence is deafening,' said Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera.

As the protests continue, political pressure is mounting on the government to address the issue at the highest level. The matter is expected to be raised again in Parliament this week.
