Sensex Opens 658 Points Higher, Nifty Surges; Tata Capital Gains 5.5%
Indian equity markets opened strongly on Wednesday, with the BSE Sensex gaining 658 points to open at 77,423, while the NSE Nifty rose over 200 points in early trade. At 9:20 am, the Sensex was trading at 77,446, up 680 points from the previous close, and the Nifty was at 24,177, higher by 191 points.
Among the top gainers in the Sensex basket were Infosys, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services, and HDFC Bank. Shares of Tata Capital surged 5.5% in early trade. However, eight of the 30 Sensex stocks were trading in the red, including InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo), Power Grid Corporation of India, and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
The broader market also showed positive momentum, with mid-cap and small-cap indices trading higher. Market analysts attributed the gains to positive global cues and sustained buying by domestic institutional investors, though no official confirmation was available. The rise comes after a volatile week for Indian equities, with the Sensex and Nifty recovering from earlier losses.
Investors are now awaiting the release of key economic data later this week, including inflation numbers and industrial production figures, which could influence market direction. Trading volumes were moderate in the opening hour, with sectoral indices such as IT, banking, and auto leading the rally.
