Security Alert Issued for Delhi and Uttarakhand After Suspected Khalistani Threat

Intelligence agencies have issued a security alert for Delhi and Uttarakhand following a possible terror threat linked to Khalistani elements. Key religious sites, government buildings, and police installations have been placed under heightened surveillance, sources stated on Saturday.

The alert was triggered after an email surfaced warning of potential attacks in the coming days. The email allegedly named several temples in Delhi and Uttarakhand, along with government offices, railway stations, and police establishments as potential targets. It also reportedly mentioned certain political leaders, increasing concerns among security agencies.

This threat comes in the backdrop of a standoff at the Nagrasu gurdwara in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district between a group of Nihangs and authorities. The Nihangs were demanding the release of four of their members arrested after a clash with locals in Karnaprayag market on June 16. The standoff ended on June 23 after the intervention of a Sikh delegation.

On the night of June 25, a group of Nihang Sikhs forcibly entered Uttarakhand through the Kulhal border in Dehradun district, adjoining Himachal Pradesh, demanding the release of the arrested men. Officials persuaded them to return to Paonta Sahib without incident.

Following the alert, Delhi Police, Uttarakhand Police, and central intelligence agencies have increased vigilance and are reviewing security arrangements at sensitive and high-footfall locations. Deployment has been stepped up at key religious places, transport hubs, and government buildings. Local police units have been directed to remain alert and intensify patrolling.

Delhi Police has launched an investigation into the email to verify its authenticity and trace its origin. Cyber experts are examining the digital trail to determine whether the threat is credible or a hoax. No specific information on the timing or exact location of a possible attack has emerged so far. Officials stated that preventive measures are being taken given the seriousness of the alert.
