Sarvesh Kushare makes history with top-three finish on Diamond League debut
Indian high jump national record holder Sarvesh Anil Kushare finished third in his Diamond League debut at Monaco on Friday, becoming the first Indian to achieve a top-three finish on debut in the prestigious athletics series.
Competing in an elite field that included world leader Oleh Doroshchuk, former Olympic champion Mutaz Barshim, World Championships medallist Jan Stefela, and Jack Kimani, Kushare cleared 2.26 metres. He finished behind Kimani (2.30m) and winner Doroshchuk (2.32m).
With this result, Kushare joins a select group of Indians who have finished in the top three at Diamond League meets: Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, discus thrower Vikas Gowda, and long jumper Sreeshankar Murali.
Kushare's performance marks a significant milestone for Indian athletics, showcasing the country's growing presence in global track and field events.
