Russia Claims Strikes on Ukrainian Ports, Four Ships Hit
Russia's Defence Ministry announced on Wednesday that its armed forces conducted overnight strikes on Ukrainian ports, hitting infrastructure and four vessels. The ministry stated that precision-guided air-launched weapons and attack drones targeted ports in Ukraine's Odesa region, specifically Odesa and Chornomorsk.
According to the Russian statement, port infrastructure used for unloading fuel and lubricants, as well as fuel storage tanks, were struck. The ministry also claimed that four vessels delivering cargoes for the Ukrainian armed forces were hit in the ports of Chornomorsk and Dnipro-Buh. These claims have not been independently verified.
The strikes come amid ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, which have repeatedly targeted port facilities and maritime infrastructure. In recent months, Russia has intensified attacks on Ukrainian port cities, disrupting grain exports and commercial shipping. The Ukrainian government has not yet commented on the latest reported strikes.
This development raises further concerns about the safety of civilian shipping and the global food supply chain, as Ukraine is a major exporter of grain. International maritime organizations have called for the protection of navigation in the Black Sea region.
