Rishikanta Singh Chanambam powers to silver, sets snatch record at Glasgow CWG

India's Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won the silver medal in the men's 60kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Wednesday. This is India's second medal of the Games.

Competing at the SEC Armadillo, Rishikanta set a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch with a lift of 121kg. He followed with a 143kg clean and jerk, finishing with a total of 264kg. His performance placed him second behind Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Bin Kasdan.

Bin Kasdan matched Rishikanta's snatch of 121kg but excelled in the clean and jerk, lifting 152kg to set a Games record total of 273kg. Canada's Antonin Lanoue took the bronze medal.

Rishikanta successfully lifted 143kg in his first clean and jerk attempt but failed in his subsequent attempts of 148kg and 151kg. Despite these misses, his silver medal contributed to India's medal tally.

The 27-year-old from Manipur has been a consistent performer for India, having previously won medals at Asian Championships and Youth Olympics. His performance in Glasgow underscored India's growing strength in weightlifting.
