Real Madrid Bolsters Defence with Denzel Dumfries Signing from Inter Milan
Real Madrid has announced the signing of Dutch international Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan, strengthening their defensive options ahead of the new season. The move comes less than a week after Dumfries and the Netherlands were eliminated by Morocco in the round of 32 of the World Cup.
The La Liga club did not disclose the financial details of the transfer agreement. Dumfries has signed a contract valid for four seasons, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2030.
The 30-year-old right back started in all four matches played by the Netherlands at the World Cup. He will compete for playing time at Madrid with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was signed last year. The departure of veteran right back Dani Carvajal after 13 seasons has opened up competition in that position.
Madrid, which will begin the season with José Mourinho back as its coach after 13 years, has been revamping its squad. Other signings for the upcoming campaign include French international Ibrahima Konaté, Spain international Marc Cucurella, and Portugal international Bernardo Silva. The club also signed a contract extension with German central defender Antonio Rüdiger.
Dumfries, known for his pace and attacking runs from full back, has been a key player for both Inter Milan and the Netherlands national team. His arrival is expected to provide depth and tactical flexibility in Madrid's defence.
