Rajya Sabha MP's son booked in Hyderabad fatal car crash
Hyderabad, August 17: The Madhapur police have identified the son of Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha member Lingamaneni Ramesh as the accused in a road accident that resulted in the death of a 26-year-old woman near Inorbit Mall on Friday.
Lingamaneni Sanjush, 21, was driving an Aston Martin bearing registration number TG 09 G 0666 when it struck Bharati Mukhi, a sales associate at the Lifestyle store inside Inorbit Mall. The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. on August 16, according to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the store manager, Panjala Ashwin Kumar.
Police said the vehicle was being driven at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner at the time of the accident. Bharati, who had gone with her colleague Pooja Ashok to the ITC Kohenur area to collect lunch, was attempting to cross the road when the car hit her. She suffered a severe head injury and was taken to a private hospital in Jubilee Hills in the same car, where doctors declared her dead.
The FIR was registered after Pooja informed the store manager about the accident. Based on the complaint, police identified Sanjush as the driver and booked him under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to causing death by a rash or negligent act.
According to Madhapur police, Sanjush was not arrested as the offence is bailable and carries a punishment of less than seven years. A notice has been served on him, and he will be required to cooperate with the investigation.
The car has been seized by the authorities. Police have conducted drunk-driving and drug tests on Sanjush, and his blood samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are awaiting the post-mortem examination report and other evidence.
The incident has drawn attention due to the involvement of a politician's family member, but police have emphasised that the legal process will proceed without any special treatment. They have assured that all evidence, including witness statements and technical reports, will be examined thoroughly.
Bharati Mukhi was a resident of Hyderabad and had been working at the Lifestyle store for some time. Her colleagues and family members have expressed grief over the sudden loss. The store management has extended support to her family during this difficult time.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to conclude. They have also reiterated the importance of safe driving practices and adherence to speed limits, especially in busy commercial areas like Madhapur.
