Rahul Gandhi Seeks Amit Shah's Removal, Supreme Court-Monitored Inquiry into Protest Crackdown

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded the removal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the government's handling of recent protests. The demand comes amid ongoing allegations of excessive force and human rights violations during demonstrations against the new farm laws.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Gandhi stated that the Home Minister's continued presence in office undermines the nation's democratic fabric. He argued that the crackdown on peaceful protesters, which reportedly led to casualties and injuries, requires an independent probe to ensure accountability.

The Supreme Court, Gandhi suggested, must oversee the investigation to maintain transparency and public trust. He referenced past instances where the court had intervened in matters of civil liberties, setting a precedent for judicial oversight in such cases.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dismissed Gandhi's allegations as politically motivated. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra said the government had acted within the law to prevent violence and damage to public property. He accused the Congress of shielding rioting elements.

The protests, primarily led by farmers, had intensified in recent weeks, leading to clashes with police in several states. The government maintains that the new laws are beneficial for farmers and that the demonstrations were instigated by opposition parties.

This demand from Gandhi is likely to escalate tensions in Parliament, where both houses have witnessed repeated disruptions over the issue. Analysts say the political standoff could delay important legislation, including the upcoming budget session.

As of now, no official response has been received from the Home Ministry regarding Gandhi's call for the minister's removal. The Supreme Court has also not commented on the demand for a monitored probe.
