Punjab Police Arrest 17 in Moga Police Station Grenade Attack, Foil Terror Plot
In a significant operation, Punjab Police have arrested 17 individuals in connection with the low-intensity grenade attack at Police Station Sadar Moga on July 8, 2026. The arrests include three main executors who carried out the attack, police stated on Tuesday.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, the police have also recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), explosive material, an electronic detonator, a 9mm Glock pistol with a magazine, and the motorcycle used in the attack (registration PB-03-AH-3088).
The attack occurred at around 3:15 am on July 8, when unidentified persons threw a grenade at the police station building. No casualties were reported.
The three main executors have been identified as Gagan alias Kali, Rajesh alias Khanna, and Shubham alias Bhinder, all residents of Ferozepur district. The other 14 accused are alleged to have provided logistical support, helped expand the network, and harbored the operatives. They include Lajjar alias Aman and his wife Parveen Kaur, Swaran, Gobind, Sagar, John, Ruth, Raj, Sarabjit Kaur, Gurpreet Singh, Rahul, Karandeep Singh, Lovepreet, and Sukhwinder Kaur.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Iqbal Singh alias Ravi Dhaliwal, currently based in the United Kingdom and allegedly involved in criminal activities, masterminded the conspiracy. According to DGP Yadav, on his directions, the accused carried out the grenade attack and were planning to plant an IED on a train running from Ferozepur to Jammu.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Faridkot Range Nilambari Jagdale said that using technical and human intelligence, police traced and apprehended Gagan, Rajesh, and Shubham, which led to the arrest of their accomplices, including Lajjar and Parveen Kaur, who were in direct contact with the UK-based suspect and arranging foot soldiers for terror activities.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Moga Sartaj Singh Chahal said that further interrogation of Lajjar led to the arrest of the remaining 12 accused. More arrests and recoveries are expected, he added.
A case (FIR No. 126 dated 08.07.2026) was initially registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosives Substances Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Subsequently, additional sections of the BNS, Explosives Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) were invoked. Investigations are ongoing.
