Punjab Delivery Worker, 28, Shot Dead in New York; Family Seeks Justice

A 28-year-old man from Punjab has died after being shot in New York City while delivering pizzas, officials said. The victim, identified as Gurdeep Singh, a native of Begowal village in Kapurthala district, was attacked by an unidentified shooter during the course of his work. The incident has sent shockwaves through his family and community both in the United States and in India.

According to reports, Gurdeep had migrated to the US about 13 years ago, taking on a significant loan to fund his journey. His father, Pyara Lal, told media that his son struggled for many years after arriving in America, working long hours to repay debts and support the family back home. 'He worked day and night to give us a better life,' Lal said, his voice heavy with grief.

The shooting is suspected to have been an attempted robbery, though a full investigation by the New York City Police Department is underway. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities have not released further details about the circumstances leading to the attack.

News of Gurdeep's death has plunged his ancestral village into mourning. Residents gathered at the family home, offering condolences and support as relatives struggled to come to terms with the loss. His father and brother are said to be inconsolable.

Gurdeep is survived by his father and a brother. The family has appealed to the Indian government to help quickly repatriate his remains to India. They have also urged US authorities to ensure a swift arrest and the strictest possible punishment for those responsible.

This tragedy highlights the risks faced by thousands of Indian migrants working in the gig economy abroad, often in vulnerable conditions. While the investigation continues, the family's plea for answers and justice remains at the forefront.
